sushi
- salmon, tuna, halibut, yellowtail, scallop, ika
you might think that their sushi and roll have less rice compared to other sushi restaurants. But I know that sushi has to be like this. Their sushi was so better than I ate sushi in other restaurants. All was good, but Tuna and yellowtail was the best among those things. And I'm not sure if everybody like Ika sushi because it was little bit unique tastes.
Special soft shell crab roll
Wow. I haven't seen before that visual. Amazing. You must try it. Soft shell crap was really crispy and good flavor with roll. The roll was also good because it had crab in middle and avocado slices on the top.
roasted salmon And roasted mussel
They were good appetizers to start! And both were served as warm.
MIO sparkling sake
It was really unique sake than I ever met before. I love this sake! It had apple and lemon flavor. And sparkling lasted until the end. -

Sad to say that the quality here did not match the reviews that I had read. We ordered two rolls a rainbow and a volcano. Both were about half the size of most sushi places I frequent and were mediocre at best. Something was off. They have a promotion for free edamame if you check in on Yelp. We had already ordered to Garlic Edamame which was disgusting. I was just hoping to have it taken off the check and when I asked the server about the free promotion she asked to see my phone to verify I had checked in. As if she didn't believe me. Then I was told because we got Garlic edamame that it wouldn't count. C'mon.
Just give me $3 off the check then.
Our bill was $50 and we still tipped $10.
Definitely, not coming back. So many better options in SD. -

Good sushi and friendly service. They have a little outdoor patio. I've been there few times. The bento box is also good. Good selection of appetizers and they also have the Sapporo/sake special. I am not much into sake so I usually drink the beer and send the sake to the sushi chef. :)

Is it the best sushi in the world? Hell, it's not even the best sushi in Hillcrest, but we love it as a simple, cheap, and walkable option for a cheap sushi dinner date!
We keep things really simple here...
I always order three of the spicy tuna rolls and call it a day. No need for any bell and whistles here, nothing fancy, no extras, just some rice and fish. It's cheap, it's flavorful, and it scratches an itch. I think each roll is $4.00 or $4.50. Who is counting at such a cheap price point.
Stef loves the salmon bento box at dinner, which is a really good deal at around $13.00 or $14.00. This box comes loaded with two nicely cooked pieces of salmon, a hearty helping of veggie tempura, a dressed side salad, some rice, and a miso soup. When the lady craves salmon there is no point in cooking when this place serves up a quality product so cheaply.
We've been here when it's been empty and also when it's busy, but never do we ever have to wait for a table or to sit at a bar. Once again, a great cheap option for those in the neighborhood!
